Scope Sessions was a monthly artist talk & media salon series that ran for almost ten years. It was co-organized by a changing group of artist friends and media arts enthusiasts. Instead of a frontal lecture format it was realized as a meeting point for the creative and the curious, a platform for sharing and learning in an informal setting.
Guest artists were invited to present a project, a concept, a process or an experience. The presentations were short, around 40 minutes and unrestricted in form. Each session offered a variety of topics and approaches; Scope Sessions were mainly about exposure, not for the artist, but for the audience. The focus was on intermedia arts and technologies, but the eclectic curation of speakers rotated among the organizers and topics also diverged from the core topic to keep it fresh and interesting for the audience.
It started in July 2011 at Atelier Überall in cooperation with VisualBerlin and quickly grew in popularity. In 2012 it took place at NK and soon moved to Panke in Wedding. In 2017 we started organizing also performance nights at Spektrum. From 2018 until 2020 we were hosted by SomoS gallery in Kreuzberg until February 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic made it impossible to continue.
Among the eclectic selection of over 254 guest speakers were Miller Puckette, Rainer Kohlberger, Selcuk Artut, Tarik Barri, Ali M. Demirel, Darsha Hewitt, Susie Sie, Carla Chan, Robert Seidel, Lucas Guiterres, Defasten, Alona Rodeh, Pierce Warnecke, Transforma, pussykrew, Zan Lyons, Onyx Ashanti, Andreas Nicolas Fischer, MESO, Reynold Reynolds, MFO, Thorsten Fleisch, Peter Kirn, Quadrature.
I was involved in the inception, design, organisation, curation, moderation, web development, and video editing and actively involved from the first to the last edition.
